Community and Content Policy

Last updated: October 2026

101 Legal Ways is a public interest education site on Canadian law and the education system. Our community is open to everyone, wherever you live. This policy explains who can join, what you can share, and how we review content before it appears on the site. It applies to every member and every comment, blog and article.

Who can join

There are two ways to take part. Both are open to people in any country or region. To join, use the form on our Join page.

  • Commenter: comment on articles and community blogs.
  • Writer: write community blogs and articles. Writers must be associated with a regulatory occupation or profession: a licensed or registered member, a candidate in the licensing process, a student in a program that leads to the occupation, or staff working under a licensed member.

For everyone

  • You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
  • Give your full name and an email address you can confirm. Writers must give their legal name. Your username, shown on the site, can be any name that follows this policy.
  • One account per person. We check for duplicate email addresses and names.
  • Agree to this policy, our Terms and Disclaimer and our Privacy Policy, and agree not to use your posts or comments for personal or business promotion.

Writers also

  • Tell us your occupation and its regulatory body. A registration or licence number is optional.
  • 101 Legal Ways may ask for proof of your association with the occupation at any time, and may change or remove writer access if proof is not provided.

What you can share

  • Comments on articles, to discuss and ask questions.
  • Community blogs: your experience, views or questions on a legal or education topic, written as your own opinion.
  • Articles: explanations of a rule, decision or process, with links to official sources.

Ground rules

  1. General information only. Do not give legal advice on anyone’s specific case, and do not offer or sell services. You may share your own experience.
  2. Be accurate. Articles must link to at least one official source, such as a government page, legislation, a court or a tribunal. Mark opinions as opinions.
  3. Protect privacy. Do not post personal information about anyone, including yourself: names of private people, addresses, phone numbers, file or case numbers, identity or immigration numbers, documents or photos of documents.
  4. Be respectful. No hate, harassment, discrimination, threats, personal attacks or sexually explicit content.
  5. No promotion. Do not use posts or comments to promote yourself, your practice, your business, a product or a service. Advertising is only accepted under our Advertising Policy.
  6. Original work. Write your own content and do not copy others. If you use writing tools, including AI tools, you are responsible for checking every fact.
  7. Be honest about who you are. Do not claim to be a lawyer, paralegal, consultant or official unless you are, and do not impersonate anyone.
  8. Keep it lawful. Nothing illegal, and nothing that breaks a court order or publication ban.

How moderation works

  • Everything is checked before it appears: automated screening against these rules, and editor review where needed.
  • Comments from approved members that pass screening appear automatically. Others wait for an editor.
  • Community blogs that pass screening may appear automatically. Articles appear only after an editor approves them.
  • If your content does not pass, we will tell you why so you can fix it and try again.
  • We may edit content for length, clarity, style and accuracy, add our disclaimer, or decline or remove any content.

Your content

  • You keep the copyright in what you write.
  • By submitting, you give 101 Legal Ways a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, edit, display and share your content on 101legalways.com and our channels.
  • You confirm that you have the right to share what you submit.
  • Published content shows your display name. 101 Legal Ways does not endorse member views.

If the rules are broken

We may remove content, send a warning, pause posting rights or close the account, depending on how serious the problem is.

Report a problem

If you see content that breaks this policy, email support@101legalways.com with the page link.

Privacy

We use your name and email only to manage your membership and your contributions. See our Privacy Policy for details.
